Aaron Ramsey has been offered a new five-year contract by Arsenal.
New head coach Unai Emery is keen to keep Ramsey at the club, and possibly appoint him captain in succession to the retired Per Mertesacker.
But, with only 12 months remaining on his current contract, the Welshman will be sold if he does not agree an extension.
Arsenal are prepared to hand Ramsey a significant increase on his current £110,000-a-week wages, but the 27-year-old may want to consider his options before signing.
This is likely to be Ramsey’s last big contract and he wants to be sure that he will play a big part under Emery.
Ramsey handed Arsenal fans encouragement that he will recommit his future to the club, following Emery’s appointment, by saying: “Of course. I haven’t spoken to him at all yet, but I think it’s an exciting time for the club. I can’t wait to get back there now.”
Arsenal have also offered Jack Wilshere a new deal on reduced terms, but with lucrative performance-based bonuses.
The expectation is now that Wilshere will stay at the Emirates and, like Ramsey, he will meet with Emery over the coming weeks.
